Tijn Sandra | IoT engineer

I'm an Multimedia and Creative Technology (specification IoT Engineer, now phased out) student at Howest Kortrijk. Now in my 3th year of this bachelor, expected to graduate in 2027. Focussed on IoT device development, cloud integration, Linux, robotics, networking and Automation.

Tijn is my first name, not Sandra. Confusing, I know.

Industry Project

MCT
IndustryProject

End of sem2 2MCT

At the end of the second year of MCT we worked not only in a team, but for an external customer to gain experience in handling external requests. We were tasked with cloudifying an existing application. FabLab, our client, had the "in-control" system, which allows organizations to turn machines on and off using badges, and use this data for billing. This system, however, lacked any cloud component, which was our job.

My main focus was the synching between the local database and the cloud database securely, as well as the Over The Air updating.

Pong game

End of sem1 2MCT

In Team Project we learned not only how to work effectively in a team, but also for an (internal) client. Our job was to make the classic game of Pong, but played via physical movement: PongXtreme. Using 2 controllers (each of which housed a human presence detector), serial communication over USB, and a Raspberry Pi we were able to create a fun and healthy experience.

Awesome smart mailbox

Final project 1MCT

At the end of the first year of MCT I demonstrated the skills I learned by making MailBuddy, a smart mailbox. Using multiple sensors it could detect if there was mail inside the box, and could signal this visually via an LED and a servo-flag. It also featured an RFID lock for extra security. To bring it to the next level it also featured a FastAPI backend, MySQL database, and a nice frontend to remotely visualise data and control the product.
